These new requirements are significant and a new Illustrated Guide will soon be published.  This presentation, along with the new Illustrated Guide, have been developed after careful industry guidance and feedback and includes highlights of the Guide for clarity.

This seminar explores the changes to the earthquake provisions that came into effect this past December 10, 2018.  Starting with a brief description about lateral bracing, the learning expands to include review of the expansion of communities where these provisions apply as well as changes in the anticipated forces for several BC Communities.

Brace Wall Bands are explained and the construction requirements for Braced Wall Panels are discussed.   A full review of spacing and dimension is included and Design and Construction considerations for sheathings, fasteners and anchor bolts provided.  Exceptions for special conditions and building systems are explained along with the use of Trade Offs to improve build-ability.  The seminar will review all of the applicable requirement tables within Part 9 of the 2018 BCBC as well as highlight some of the relevant terms.
